Christoph Strasser wins Race Across America 2013 using the cardo BK-1
Pittsburgh, PA (June 20, 2013) – Cardo Systems, the official sponsor of the 2013 Race Across America (RAAM), congratulates ultra-cyclist Christoph Strasser for winning this years’ race and setting a new world record crossing America in less than 8 days.
Between Oceanside, California and Annapolis, Maryland, the RAAM contestants cycled 3000miles / 4830 km under extreme road and weather conditions, passing through mountains and deserts. During such an enduring race, clear, safe and easy communication between contestants and team members is vital. RAAM 2013 is the second time Christoph Strasser and his Zeil team used the cardo BK-1 communication system throughout the race.
The cardo BK-1 is highly appreciated among professional cyclists for its crystal clear audio quality, Bluetooth voice operated full-duplex communication, ease of use, sleek and aerodynamic design and of course, its microphone and hovering speakers that do not touch the cyclist’s face. It was therefore chosen and adopted by top RAAM cyclists as THE communication system for this challenging race.
Both Strasser (Austria, RAAM 2011 winner) and third-place finisher Reto Schoch (Switzerland, RAAM 2012 winner) completed the race with the cardo BK-1 on their helmets, allowing constant communication with their team members. The cardo BK-1 was also adopted by Marko Baloh (Slovenia / 5th place), as well as many other contestants: Cassie Schumacher (1st place / under 50), Maria Parker (1st place / 50-59), Gerhard Gulewizc, Seana Hogan, Chris Ragsdale, Franz Preihs, James Meurig, Mike Wilson, C. Scott Ragsdale, Dennis Johnson. In the Team Category, Team RAAM Cancer, Team Pedal Freeks, Team CT Challenge, Team Cork RAAM, Team Power, Pedals and Ponytails and Team CEO Challenges also employed the cardo BK-1.
“This year’s race was tough and conditions were very difficult, especially during the last two days. Using the cardo BK-1, I was able to stay in constant contact with my team and receive mental support as I cycled such vast distances,” says the winner of RAAM 2013, Christoph Strasser. “The BK-1 was a valuable companion during the race, not only for communication but for safety, too.”
“The successful use of the cardo BK-1 by the winners of this enduring race gives us immense satisfaction that our products have contributed to the success of these remarkable athletes. The use of the cardo BK-1 under such extreme conditions was possible owing to its high level of quality and design,” said Albert Ashkenazy, Deputy CEO of Cardo Systems. ”We congratulate Christoph Strasser and Reto Schoch for their exceptional performance and we thank them for putting trust in our system.”
