FAQ
Does PACKTALK EDGE ORV need cell service?
No. Dynamic Mesh Communication creates a direct wireless network between compatible units, so the group intercom does not require cell service or a data plan. Phone calls, online music streaming and some navigation functions may still depend on the paired phone and available service.
How many riders can connect?
A DMC group can include up to 31 riders.
What is the communication range?
The range is up to 1 mile between units and up to 5 miles across a spaced group, as riders can relay the signal through the mesh network.
Actual range depends on terrain, trees, hills, canyons, buildings, rider spacing and other obstacles.
Will it work in the woods or mountains?
Yes, but physical obstacles and terrain can reduce the stated maximum range. Dense trees, hills, rocks and elevation changes may temporarily block direct communication.
When a rider returns within range, DMC automatically restores the connection.
Do all riders need a Cardo?
For the complete DMC mesh experience, riders should use compatible Cardo DMC units.
PACKTALK EDGE ORV can also connect with supported units from other major brands through Bluetooth intercom, but cross-brand connections may not provide the same group size, range or DMC functionality.
Can it connect to older Cardo units?
PACKTALK EDGE is compatible with Cardo DMC products. It can also connect with other Cardo units through standard Bluetooth pairing, subject to the capabilities of the connected model.
Is it a replacement for a GMRS or race radio?
Not in every application.
PACKTALK EDGE ORV is a wireless, hands-free group intercom designed for natural conversation between nearby riders. Traditional radios may still be preferred for very long-distance communication, racing operations, base stations or communication with an existing radio network.
Does it require push-to-talk?
Normal DMC group communication is always on and does not require a push-to-talk button. Riders speak naturally once the group is connected.
Is it difficult to install?
It is designed for self-installation on compatible helmets. The speakers and microphone mount inside the helmet, while the Air Mount attaches to the exterior.
Speaker placement is important for clear sound and comfort. The speakers should sit directly over the rider’s ears.
Will it fit my ATV helmet?
It fits most full-face, modular and off-road helmets, but compatibility depends on the helmet’s shape, liner and available room for speakers. Helmets with dedicated speaker cutouts generally provide the easiest installation and best speaker positioning.
Is it waterproof?
The PACKTALK EDGE unit is IP67 waterproof and built for off-road conditions. The charging port should remain properly closed during exposure to water, dust and mud.
How long does the battery last?
PACKTALK EDGE ORV provides up to 13 hours of talk time. A 20-minute fast charge provides up to two additional hours of talk time.
Can I charge it while riding?
Yes. PACKTALK EDGE supports charging while in use through USB-C.
Can I listen to music and GPS directions?
Yes. When connected to a compatible smartphone or GPS device, riders can hear music, phone calls and navigation instructions through the JBL speakers.
Can the whole group share the same music?
Music sharing is available with one other compatible unit via Bluetooth, not the entire DMC group.
Can I still hear the group while listening to music?
PACKTALK EDGE supports audio mixing, and music volume will lower as someone speaks. The Cardo Connect app allows riders to personalize audio and intercom settings.
Can I control it without taking hands off the handlebars?
Yes. Natural Voice Operation allows riders to use supported “Hey Cardo” commands for functions such as volume, music and phone control.
What comes in the box?
The package includes the PACKTALK EDGE unit, magnetic helmet cradle, clamp and adhesive mounting options, 40 mm JBL speakers, speaker booster pads, wired microphone, hybrid boom microphone, mounting pads and cleaning pads.
What warranty does it include?
PACKTALK EDGE ORV includes a three-year warranty from the date of purchase, subject to the official warranty terms and proof-of-purchase requirements.
Is it compatible with FRS/GMRS radios?
If the radio has Bluetooth, Cardo can connect. Most systems don’t currently support that – but we’re working on ways to bridge that gap.
