What Is the Freecom 4x?
The Freecom 4x is Cardo’s premier Bluetooth headset for motorcycle riders. Just like its predecessor, it lets you wirelessly connect to your phone and GPS device so you don’t have to physically interact with your device while riding. It uses the same mounting clip as the Freecom 4 to stay mounted to your helmet. The Freecom 4x lets you connect to up to four other riders at a time. It is designed for those who don’t need the interconnectivity of dynamic mesh communication, which connects you to up to 15 riders at a time.
Find the Best in Motorcycle Communication
The Freecom 4 is still a suitable choice for riders who want to use motorcycle communication, but the Freecom 4x takes things up a notch.

Improvements on the Freecom 4
- Bluetooth Interconnectivity
Both the Freecom 4 and 4x use Bluetooth to send data over short and long distances wirelessly, but the latter uses a 5.2 unit, the latest version of this technology, while the Freecom 4 uses a 4.0 unit. The 5.2 unit sends data faster than the older model, reducing the amount of time it takes for your unit to respond. It also uses less power compared to the 4.0 unit to make the battery last as long as possible.
The Freecom 4X also has a live intercom. This incredibly useful upgrade will automatically reconnect when the units are back in range so you don’t have to worry about trying to sync up with each other in the middle of your ride.
- Battery and Charging
The Freecom 4x gives you up to 13 hours of continuous talking time, giving it a slight edge compared to the Freecom 4. The newer model uses a USB-C charging cable instead of the micro-USB cable. The new cord gives the device about two hours of talking time after just 20 minutes of charging. It only takes around two hours for the battery to go from 0 percent to 100 percent.

- Installation and Updates
One of the best reasons to get the Freecom 4x is the improved usability. The device immediately syncs up with the app on your phone to help you and your companions get on the road as fast as possible. For extra convenience, you can update your Freecom 4X using your mobile phone. This means you don’t have to plug your headset into your computer’s USB drive every time you need to update the software. The Freecom 4x makes updating your device an afterthought. You can rest assured you’re always using the latest version.
Stay Connected as a Group with Helmet Communication
- Audio Quality
Cardo is known for high audio quality, and the Freecom 4X is no exception. The Freecom 4X comes with 40mm speakers with Sound By JBL. The other person’s voice sounds like it does on the phone, eliminating some of the interference. This helps you enjoy the conversation more while riding. You also won’t have to ask your companions to repeat themselves.
The volume on the device also automatically increases with speed to keep the conversation at the appropriate decibel level. You don’t have to manually adjust the audio when hitting the acceleration to help you stay focused on your surroundings.
The Freecom 4x is a noticeable improvement on the Freecom 4. Both units let you listen to music and connect with up to four other riders, but the 4x offers features that you won’t find anywhere else on the market today. Use the latest helmet communication to stay safe in every situation.
